Running through the heart of London; the River Thames has played a central role in the history of the city, and when the tide is low, the capital’s longest archaeological site is revealed. We will have about 1h 30mins on the foreshore at low tide, before spending about 20mins identifying and dating your objects. We meet outside Tower Hill Tube Station, at 10am.  The days we can go down onto the foreshore depend on the tides. We will look for historical objects along a stretch of the foreshore.  You won't be allowed to scrape or dig, just pickup items off the surface.Gloves and bags to put your items in will be provided. This is a great activity for children.

Meeting at Tower Hill Tube Station (outside the station).
Meeting time will be 10am, although the days we can go down there are dependent on the tides.
The foreshore is very stoney, so sensible shoes/walking boots or wellington boots are required.
Most objects you can spot sitting on the foreshore surface after being washed in on the tide or by kicking back a few stones with your feet.
We walk 5 minutes to the foreshore at Custom House.  The steps going down to the foreshore are safe and have a handrail.
I will explain what objects to look for and also tell you more about the history of the foreshore in that area.
