Delve into Vancouver's dirtiest secrets on a walking tour packed with the city’s most scandalous prohibition era history. From back alley blind pigs to Chinatown opium dens you’ll see a side of Vancouver you never knew existed!

The story begins at Cathedral Square, across from the Holy Rosary Cathedral, and quickly steps back in time to 1917, when prohibition arrived in British Columbia. Saloon doors swung closed and Vancouver soon became a den of illicit booze, crime and vice. Your guide will share the tales of the villains, crooked politicians and mobsters that ruled the city in the roaring twenties, including the story of Joe Celona, Vancouver’s very own “Al Capone.”

As you walk past ornate heritage buildings, down narrow alleyways unchanged in over a hundred years, and along historic streets once teeming with bawdy houses, opium dens and blind pigs, you’ll discover a unique perspective on Vancouver’s history. As former mayor LD Taylor once said, “this is a port city, we ain’t no Sunday School town!”

You'll finish the walking tour on the cobblestone streets of Maple Tree Square, surrounded by Gastown's most talked about bars and restaurants. It's a perfect place to share stories of your own with your friends and family over a post tour dinner or drinks.
