Have you wanted to try your hand at making pottery but haven't had time or the opportunity? Why not visit Kinsale Pottery while you're staying in the local area and spend three hours in the pottery with one of our small team of skilled potters? In this session, you will have the chance to make two or three pieces, including the chance to try the potter's wheel.  What you make will then be dried, biscuit fired, glazed and glaze fired over a one-week period. You can either drop in and collect your work a week or so later, or it can be shipped at cost.  Typically, the cost of shipping is around €15 in Europe and €25 to the US.While you're here, enjoy our fantastic views, and browse for take-home gifts in the Coach House Gallery which exhibits the work of Adrian Wistreich, ceramicist.

Your class will involve working on three projects, including one on the potter's wheel, one sculptural piece and one slab built outdoor sign or plaque, which you get to paint with our range of individual clay-based paints called slips.. The wet clay is then left to dry for two or three days before being biscuit-fired, glazed and glaze fired to 1230 degrees centigrade. You can collect or have your work shipped about a week after the class.  This class is suitable for teens and adults, but if you have a child aged between 5 and 12, please enquire about bringing them to the class with you.
Your tutors this summer include Adrian Wistreich, a potter for 30 years and owner of Kinsale Pottery, Laura Hogan, a potter from Portland Oregon who has been teaching in an art school in Moscow, and Roisin Kenny, a long-term student at Kinsale Pottery, who also teaches yoga and meditation.
Kinsale Pottery and Arts Centre provides arts and crafts courses for adults and children, specialising in pottery/ceramics, glass fusing, jewellery-making, and mosaic-making. Besides the three-hour drop-in taster class, we run weekly classes, weekend breaks, summer schools and summer camps, and tailor-made workshops for corporate groups and private parties. Kinsale Pottery is situated just 20 minutes from Cork Airport, close to the centre of the beautiful historic harbour of Kinsale, famed for its restaurants and shops. The pottery includes electric and raku kilns, stoneware and earthenware clays, and we teach throwing, hand-building and all varieties of glazing.
The pottery is in the converted stables of the home farm for Ballinacurra House, and the gallery is in the eaves of its coach house, which dates back to 1770. In 2008, we expanded the gallery space on two floors to include a huge reception room and exhibition space which allows for 2D and 3D work indoors and outdoors. This large gallery is open to the public throughout the year and holds exhibitions of artists' work from across Ireland. Adrian Wistreich’s work to date includes a variety of figurative sculptures in fired clay, cement and fibreglass and plaster, both indoor and outdoor work, thrown and hand-built ceramics including some one-off pieces of tableware. In the last two years, Adrian has been concentrating on teapots and sculptural ceramics, developing themes from early sculpture and traditional designs, as well as exploring a range of decorative techniques. While Adrian participates in exhibitions on a regular basis, the pottery is open to visitors, and artwork is for sale all year round.
