Explore the intriguing stretch of railway running between Hanoi and Long Bien Stations – and directly across the city – on this unique afternoon tour.  We capture the astonishing variety of life on the tracks, from railway workers and trains to the houses and markets all the way along the line, while focusing on key points of photographic composition.Passing trains and various light requirements, as well as the traffic that rushes between each section of the line, provides the opportunity to look at technical points such as ISO settings and Shutter Priority mode, while our journey along the tracks and encounter with the locals means a chance to pick up some professional photojournalism tips on building a story and photographing people. On the Tracks takes in: • Hanoi Railway Station • Phung Hung • Long Bien Station • Long Bien Bridge

00 am – Hotel pick-up
30 am – Start tour at Long Bien Bridge, overlooking Long Bien market. Introduction to the tour and overview of camera settings. Focus on Establishing shot and use of Shutter Priority, capturing trains coming into Long Bien station.
30 am – Wander through alleyways leading into the Old Quarter and underneath the railway line to Phung Hung Street. Here the photographic emphasis is on capturing life around and under the tracks, the businesses and activities that spring up on the embankments and bridges that support the railway. Technical focus – S and A mode and different ISO settings to capture activity.
45 am – Quick tea break and review of shots taken so far.
00 am - The group continue along the tracks to Dien Bien Phu Street and beyond, into the residential areas that lie along the tracks in this part of town. There is a focus now on capturing daily life in relation to the railway – different ways to build a photographic story around a physical theme. Colm passes on tips such as ‘shooting without looking’ and ‘creating the place’.
am - We stop for breakfast at our café / photography gallery Zoom, with time to select pictures for a 3 photo story on life around the tracks.
