Accompanied by your storyteller, you will stroll through the streets of Montréal's Quartier des spectacles (entertainment district), the city's former Red Light District. The tour starts from the Midway Tavern and ends near the corner of Ontario St. East & Sanguinet St. The activity includes stops at exterior sites that are reputed to be haunted or where significant events unfolded, such as Peace Park, Monument National and Théâtre du Nouveau Monde.
You will hear about some of the most notorious characters from the era, such as bank robber Machine-Gun Molly, Burlesque Queen Lili St. Cyr, and brothel-owner Marcel Les-Dents-en-Or. The spirit of McGill University's most infamous graduate, abortionist and serial killer Dr. Thomas Neill Cream, is said to haunt the area to this very day.
Despite the best efforts by authorities to "clean up" the unsavory neighborhood, whether through brothel raids, legal battles, theatre closures, the demolition of entire city blocks, or the rebranding of the entire neighbourhood as the Quartier des spectacles, the ghosts of the Red Light District still remain!Highlights
