Explore the magnificent lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland. Located just 30-40 minutes from Reykjavík, the tunnel is easily accessible year round. Discover the inner workings of a volcanic eruption and walk along the path where lava flowed during the Leitahraun eruption, which occurred approximately 5200 years ago. Small-group tour is approximately one hour, and is limited to a maximum of 25 people. Platforms and lights have been incorporated - making the experience of visiting the cave simply breathtaking. The tour includes all necessary equipment. Choose your preferred departure time upon booking. Please note that this tour does not include pick up and is for self driving passengers only.Description
Explore the tunnel in an easy and enjoyable manner in a small-group tour. The tunnel is in many places covered in large rocks and difficult to pass; however, a footbridge and several paths have been built over the roughest terrain, making the standard tour accessible by all. Impressive lighting in this part of the tunnel highlights the changing colors and clearly shows the powerful volcanic activity that formed the tunnel.
The tour is offered every hour from 10am to 5pm and each tour takes approximately 55 - 60 minutes. By pre-booking your time slot, you'll guarantee your place for the hour of your preference. Helmets and lights provided. Warm clothes and sturdy shoes are recommended, and bear in mind that there is usually some water dripping from the ceiling, so wearing a water resistant or waterproof jacket and clothes is recommended. It can also make a difference to bring a smile along the way.Highlights
