      Itinerary:
Full Day Outdoor Photography Workshop (8-hours):
This is a day of improving your visual and technical skills and capturing awe-inspiring images with an expert photographer to guide you – and the day will be planned to bring out the brilliant photographer inside you! By the end of the day you will have so much more confidence with your photo-taking skills, a better understanding of photographic terminology and be able to navigate your way around your camera with greater ease. The structure of your full day private workshop will be personalized to your interests, skill level and experience and you will learn-by-doing with expert guidance from Roy Vieth. With many years experience as a nature, wildlife and travel photographer and awards to his name, Roy has much to share about photography and the subjects you’ll be capturing. Your outdoor classroom is in Hobart itself or just a short distance from the CBD. Locations will be especially selected to suit your photographic interests whether that is cityscapes, seascapes or landscapes, waterfalls, birds and wildlife, nature close-ups, historic buildings and structures or a combination.

      Half-Day Wildlife Photography Tuition (5-hours):
Enjoy half a day improving your photography techniques whilst up close and personal with Tasmania's native wildlife. From your Hobart CBD pickup, be whisked away to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary for a private wildlife photography tuition session. You will learn the most appropriate settings on your camera for capturing the charm and action of Tasmania’s intriguing native animals – like the yawning jowl of the iconic Tasmanian Devil, the captivating allure of Bare-nosed Wombats, the mesmerizing stare of Tawny Frogmouths, Blue-tongue Lizards and their quick and speedy tongue, and so much more. This practical learning experience will also guide you through selecting the right backgrounds and compositions, using natural light, focusing on your subject, correct exposure, depth of field and so much more – all will be explained clearly so you can create your own unique wildlife images. An experience like this would not be complete without one very special photographic opportunity – an exclusive up-close animal encounter and genuine wildlife experience. You will become more familiar and engage with one of Bonorong’s amazing resident animals and enjoy some wonderfully candid photographic moments.

Seasonal Twilight Tour (October to March only, 5-hours):
As the sun drops, learn why twilight is considered the magic hour on a seasonal night tour. From October through March, you can take a twilight tour of two iconic Hobart locations: Mt Wellington and Sullivans Cove. Drive up to the 4,169-foot-high (1,271-meter) summit of Mt Wellington, passing cliffs of dolerite columns known as the Organ Pipes. As the sun sets, take in views of Hobart, the alpine landscape, endemic and native plants, flowers and birdlife. On the waterfront, spend time at Sullivans Cove, the historic site where European settlers first landed in Tasmania.

In the spring and summer months, you can play with lighting techniques like starburst effects and light trails around Hobart. Stop along the waterfront to snap colorful photos of the city lights bouncing off the water, and play with shadows and contrast when you turn the lens on historic buildings that house art galleries, boutique shops, restaurants and bars.

Private Night Photography Walkabout (April to September only, 3-hours):
Discover Hobart in a different light and master the techniques for taking spectacular night photos. This photography walkabout occurs when Hobart’s historic waterfront and Salamanca precincts are lit only with ambient light, after the sun has set and the daylight has faded into the dark of night. With an expert photographer to guide you, you will learn the most appropriate camera settings to ensure sufficient light reaches your camera sensor – one of the most important aspects of night photography – all without a using a flash! You will use a tripod (if you don’t have your own there is one available you can loan) and experiment with other methods to keep your camera steady. You’ll gain a clearer understanding of ISO, aperture, exposure, shutter speeds, focus and so much more for low-light photographic conditions. By the end of the walkabout you will have more confidence to create different effects in your night-time images like moodily lit historic buildings, smooth and lustrous water reflections and light beams, starbursts and light trails.
