We have 5 sections on our national route, each which can be travelled in either direction, only in part, or in totality starting from Johannesburg OR Cape Town.
Johannesburg ↔ Southern Drakensberg: Visit the largest city in South Africa, Johannesburg. Experience the urban culture and the hustle of big city life. The Northern Drakensberg is home to the impressive mountain formation known as the Amphitheatre and the second highest waterfall in the world, the Tugela Falls. At the Central Drakensberg, you can find a wide array of activities for the relaxed traveller or the adrenaline-junkie. We also travel to the Southern Drakensberg, well known for the Sani Pass, its breath-taking hiking trails and exploring the area on horseback.
Southern Drakensberg to Durban and St Lucia: Travel from Southern Drakensberg down to the magnificent city of Durban, where the weather and surf is always fine. Head east to Ballito - a popular holiday spot, and continue to the Tugela River Mouth. We then head north east to the town St Lucia, next to the World Heritage Site of iSimangaliso Wetlands Park and a short drive from Hluhluwe Game Reserve..
Southern Drakensberg ↔ Hogsback: This route is all about the local culture. With larger distances between destinations, one can look out the window to get an accurate glimpse of rural living in South Africa. The Southern Drakensberg is located of the foot of the Drakensberg, with towns Underberg and Himeville as stops. The Wild Coast is only accessible with shuttles due to adverse road conditions but an extremely popular destination. Lastly we visit Hogsback, a popular destination for forest hiking, mountain biking or just enjoying a bath on the edge of a cliff.
Hogsback, Addo, Port Elizabeth: Heading down the Amatola Mountains provides an impressive change of scenery for lush forest to bushveld in less than 20 kilometres. One on the highlights of this route is the drive through two sections of the Addo Elephant Park where you can see a large variety of antelope and elephants in a slow drive-by. We call it a safari drive in a rush! We then go to the friendly city, Port Elizabeth, which is also known as the start of the Garden Route.
Port Elizabeth ↔ Cape Town: Start from Port Elizabeth and get to Cape Town via one of the most beautiful drives in the world, the Garden Route. Stop for some surf vibes at Jeffreys Bay or Cape St Francis. Get your adrenalin pumping with many activities at Storms River. Do the highest bungy jump in the world at Bloukrans Bridge. Or enjoy the beautiful nature, beaches and ocean life at Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Wilderness, Sedgefield or Mossel Bay. From here you can continue to Hermanus, which major claim to fame is the whale watching during spring. We end up in another world-famous location, the city of Cape Town.
